China’s leather production on upward trajectory

16/10/2012
Figures published by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) show production at 744 large-scale tanneries in the country grew 17.2% in the first eight months of this year, to 110.9 billion yuan ($17.7 billion).

However, this was an eight percentage point slowdown in growth from the same period last year.

In terms of light leather, production grew 19% from the period a year earlier, to 470 million square metres.

CLIA said Hebei Province was the region that produced the most light leather.
