Australia awaits ‘big wave’ of Chinese investment in cattle

Record demand for Australian cattle and beef could lead to a shortage over the next couple of years, warns the president the of Australia Lot Feeders' Association, Don Mackay, and prices will go up accordingly.

Chinese investors have been buying ranches to secure the supply and consultant David Thomas says Australians should hire Chinese students to help with relationships in the country.

"The Chinese bring two things; one is capital and the other is a huge, fast growing market for our product," said he said at feedlotters conference BeefEx on the Gold Coast.

"There are too many people making judgements about China who have never been there. Secondly, hire an international Chinese student into your business to help you interact with Chinese customers. And then thirdly, tap into this investment because a big, big wave is coming and there are opportunities for everybody if we're smart."
