Beef imports into China still growing

16/07/2014
The latest quarterly report from Dutch bank Rabobank on the global beef industry has said China increased its imports of beef by 34% in the first four months of this year compared to the same months in 2013.

Analysts said growth had slowed compared to 2013, when food health issues pushed consumers away from pork. Pork is much more available in 2014.

In total over the January-April period in 2014, China imported 101,000 tonnes of beef, a figure Rabobank has said is still very high compared to the volumes it imported before 2013.

Of this total 52.7% came from Australia.
