Timberland highlights certified suppliers

03/07/2014
US-based outdoor brand Timberland has published the results of its corporate social responsibility audits for the first quarter of 2014.

In it, it highlights that 93% of its leather suppliers are Leather Working Group (LWG) gold or silver-rated tanneries, representing 98% of its footwear leather volume.

This demonstrates its “commitment to limit production at non-certified tanneries until they produce aggressive work plans and set dates for re-audits to achieve certification”, it said.

“Timberland's target is for all tanneries that provide leather for footwear to be a minimum of silver-rated, meaning that industry-standard best practices are employed.”

LWG is a multi-stakeholder group that assesses the environmental performance of tanneries and awards gold, silver and bronze status to those achieving the best results.
