West Africa is a potential growth market for US beef

03/06/2014
With a large population and rapid economic growth, the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has identified West Africa as a region with strong export potential for US beef. The region includes countries such as Angola, Benin, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo.

Dan Halstrom, USMEF’s senior vice-president for marketing and communications, paid a recent visit to the region and said afterwards that most imported beef and pork is currently sold in traditional wet markets. But he sees potential for rapid growth in modern retail, as well as in the hotel and restaurant sectors.
