Eagle Ottawa eyes $5million from e-leather line

It touts the material – which uses shredded leather scraps, knitted together through hydroentanglement and finished with the same coatings as its leather lines – as a cheaper alternative following dramatic increases in hide prices.
The end result is a fabric that matches "genuine" leather much closer than vinyl does in touch and texture, Steve Surbrook, Ottawa’s vice president of innovation, told local press.
With the product launching in an entry-level vehicle later this year, Mr Surbrook expects $5 million in sales in 2014 rising to $50 million over the next five years.
