Automotive tanning group Eagle Ottawa has announced an expansion of its finishing and cutting plant at Szolnok in Hungary “to meet increasing customer demand”.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the expanded facility will take place on June 10; the project is expected to be complete by October and to create 150 new jobs.

Established in 2001 to provide premium leather to automotive manufacturers in Europe, the leather finishing plant will now add “cutting-edge roll-coating technology” to its current equipment. The facility finishes and cuts automotive leather and offers value-add operations such as custom leather perforation, lamination and embroidery.

Commenting on the expansion, Bryn Kahrl , general manager of the plant, said the development was in response to “a substantial increase in orders”. He added: “We are proud to be able to grow the local team to answer the demand.”

Eagle Ottawa supplies BMW, Daimler, Ford, Honda, Hyundai-Kia, Land Rover, Renault-Nissan, Smart and Toyota from Szolnok, which is about 100 kilometres from Budapest.
