BMW reports healthy first quarter
Sales of BMW vehicles surpassed the 400,000 mark for the first time in a first quarter, with a record 428,000 units – 12% higher than in the corresponding period last year – while 40% more 897 Rolls-Royce were sold – 642.
The BMW group reported €18.2 billion in revenues for the three months to the end of March, 3.9% higher than the same period last year.
The exceptionally cold US winter resulted in purchases being postponed, it said – sales there grew 1.5%. Figures in China rose 13.7% but fell in Russia (-1.6 %), Brazil (-1.9 %) and India (-7 %).
The workforce was increased by nearly 5,000 “to keep pace with strong demand and to push ahead with innovations”.
