Bangladesh: Tanners submit plans for Savar

Reports from Bangladesh say 127 tanners, from the allotted 155 tanneries, have submitted their building design plans to the Savar Tannery Estate Authority.

The Indian government has said tanneries must relocate to Savar as soon as possible, but the move has been fraught with problems over the years.

"Construction work of Central Effluent Treatment Plant has been going at full pace and other related projects have also been approved,” said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu. “127 tanneries have submitted their full design plans and these will also be approved within a short time.”

The Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association said the remaining tanneries would submit plans soon.
