European expansion on the cards for Marfrig

Meatpacker Marfrig Alimentos is planning expansion in Europe and Asia and might sell some assets to reduce its debt.

The Brazilian company sold Seara Brasil to rival JBS in the middle of last year and is considering selling US-based Keystone Foods and Moy Park, a poultry supplier based in Northern Ireland.

While Brazil cannot export beef to China, most exports from Marfig’s Uruguayan unit head to the Asian country, said CEO Sergio Rial, adding that he expects it to become one of the most important markets for the group.
