Montevideo-based consultancy CPA Ferrere has issued a report saying mergers and acquisitions in Uruguay in 2013 surpassed $2 billion in value.

The company highlighted agribusiness as one of the prime contributors to this and said the biggest deal in this industry in 2013 was the sale of tanning group Zenda by Brazilian packer and leather group Marfrig to rival group JBS.

JBS acquired the Zenda tannery, which has capacity to process between 4,500 and 5,000 hides a day, in June 2013.
