Brazilian firms visit China to boost leather and beef trade
10/09/2012
The Brazilian firms, which include representatives of the meat industry, were to take part in a special conference on business opportunities between the two countries. The conference was organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
Apex, the Brazilian export promotions agency, said it had picked to take part companies that were already active in export markets, but not yet present in China. The Brazilian ministry for external relations co-organised the event. Along with exporters of honey, wine and natural fibres, beef companies travelled to China to take part, including JBS and Marfrig. The industry associations taking part included representatives of the leather sector.
CCPIT said in advance of the event that it was reacting to a directive the Chinese government issued at the end of April saying specifically that it wanted to increase imports of quality goods into China to help it improve its balance of trade.
