Marfrig uses more production capacity

09/10/2012
Brazilian packer and tanning group Marfrig has announced that it has increased the amount of production capacity it is using from 75% at the start of the year to 80% now.

It has also increased production capacity at three of its abattoirs, those in Porto Murtinho (Mato Grosso do Sul), Pirenópolis (Goiás) e Tucumã (Pará).

Marfrig has calculated its current slaughter capacity in Brazil at almost 4.2 million head per year; in addition, it has facilities in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay that would increase the total to 5.4 million head. Its vice-president for investor relations, João Sampaio, has said that it’s mostly an increase in demand in the domestic market that is pushing production up.
