Japan’s leather exports rise in November

The Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association has reported that the country produced 1.24 million pairs of leather shoes in November 2013, 5.2% fewer than in November 2012.
However, production of tanned ‘sheets’ increased 5% in the month to 147,000.

Imports of raw hides and leather grew 8.5% in November to JPY2.66 billion ($26 million) in value, while the country exported $23 million, a 19% rise over November 2012.
 
The country imported $23 million worth of leathergoods (+18.8%) and exported $450,000 (+43.5%) worth.

The value of consumption for footwear per household rose 2.6% for the month to $16 while consumption of leathergoods rose 3.5% to $9.
