At least five Japanese footwear companies have announced they will move production to Vietnam after a delegation visited the country at the end of last year.

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show revenue from footwear exports hit $1.73 billion by the end of March, 16% more than the same period in 2012.

Most Vietnamese footwear businesses have received steady orders this year and are seeing increasing orders from the US and Japan, according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association.
