Relatively Iconic: Levi’s reissues Einstein’s Menlo Cossack jacket
Levi’s Vintage Clothing has released the third limited-edition reproduction of the Menlo Cossack Leather Jacket, famously worn by Albert Einstein.
The jacket is a faithful recreation of the 1935 design, featuring a cropped, boxy fit, rounded collar, button front closure, and brass side buckles.
Handcrafted in Italy from full-grain sheep leather, the jacket includes reinforced stitching, adjustable side tabs, and buttoned cuffs. The run is strictly limited to 800 hand-numbered pieces, each packaged with a replica of the original Christie’s auction paddle and a photograph of Einstein wearing the garment.
The original jacket, acquired by Levi Strauss & Co. at Christie’s in 2016, has already inspired two previous reproductions. The first, released in Spring 2018 in mid-brown leather, and the second in black with a limited-edition fragrance by Brooklyn perfumers D.S. & Durga, both sold out rapidly.
