Levi’s creates 500 replicas of Einstein’s famous leather jacket

Levi Strauss has released a limited edition run of a replica of the leather jacket famously worn by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein.

The original Menlo Cossack jacket was sold for £110,500 at auction in June 2016. The winning bidder? Levi Strauss, the company that designed and made it in the mid-1930s.

It has now created 500 replicas of the garment, which have been made available online and at select Levi’s stores.

Buyers will also receive a bottled scent, approved by Levi’s and created by New York perfume house D.S. & Durga. It is a blend of burley pipe tobacco, papyrus manuscripts and vintage leather, designed to mimic the aroma of Mr Einstein’s actual jacket.

They will also get a No. 97 auction paddle in reference to the one that was used by Levi’s in 2016 to re-purchase the jacket it had created.
