Donatella Versace: new CEO 'the perfect partner’
The reason for ex-Alexander McQueen chief executive Emmanuel Gintzburger’s recent departure from the Kering-owned brand has been revealed, following a recent announcement by rival group Capri Holdings, the owner of luxury brands Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors.
Mr Gintzburger will step into the role of chief executive of Versace on September 12. The appointment effectively cuts short the tenure of the Italian firm’s interim chief executive, Michael Kors alum Cedric Wilmotte, who was originally set to leave his temporary position on December 31.
Commenting on the news, Capri chairman and chief executive, John D. Idol, praised Mr Gintzburger’s “proven track record” of building global luxury fashion houses, adding that the executive’s vision for Versace chimes well with the group’s own ambitions and strategic initiatives.
Versace’s chief creative officer, Donatella Versace, stated: “I am delighted Emmanuel has joined the Versace family. He has an amazing background in luxury; as soon as I met him, I knew he was the perfect partner to help us take Versace to even greater heights.”
Meanwhile, Mr Gintzburger himself added that he was “thrilled” to be joining the brand. “I have long admired the unparalleled style and fearless narrative of the house. I look forward to having the opportunity to partner with Donatella and the talented Versace management team to accelerate growth and strengthen the position of Versace as a leading luxury fashion house,” he said.
