New book documents Louis Vuitton artisanship
Parisian luxury brand Louis Vuitton, owned by LVMH, is set to release a new coffee table book celebrating its global artisans and ateliers in partnership with publisher Assouline in February.
Written by British author, historian and journalist Nicholas Foulkes, Louis Vuitton Manufactures explores how the company’s design vocabulary has been expressed through artisanship since its founding in 1854.
Weighing just under three kilograms, the book features a silk hardcover and more than 350 illustrations inside, which show everything from cutting and stitching leather to the workshops themselves. The crafts of making trunks, bags, footwear, ready-to-wear, watches, jewellery and fragrance have all been detailed and documented.
“Fundamentally, it’s not about luggage, it’s about innovation,” Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive, Michael Burke, states within the 400-page English-language tome.
