Trunks on tour
A celebration of the trunk that Louis Vuitton commissioned to mark the 200th anniversary of its founder in 2021 is to go on a planned but delayed world tour this year.
Louis Vuitton has commissioned designers around the world to create a commemorative collection of 200 trunks, celebrating the first product that the brand’s eponymous founder made on launching the company.
The trunks went on display at Louis Vuitton’s workshop at Asnières-sur-Seine, to the north of Paris, in December 2019, but plans to take them to Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo, New York and London have had to wait until this year because of covid-19.
At the end of the tour, all 200 trunks will be sold at auction by Sotheby’s in December 2022. All proceeds will go to a scholarship program to bridge inequality in different creative fields, the brand has said.
