Handcrafted in England: Xor Titanium

Co-founded by former Vertu design chief, Hutch Hutchison, alongside several of Mr Hutchison’s former Vertu colleagues (and partly financed by former Vertu customers), English luxury communications company Xor has released its first “premium” hardware encrypted mobile phone handset, Xor Titanium.

According to the press release, the Xor Titanium edition has been created “specifically for those who appreciate design, quality, craft and exclusivity.”

“Xor handsets are designed and hand built in England, using only the finest materials to produce a lightweight, strong and dependable phone,” the press release continued.

Along with ergonomic design elements (such as fluid surfaces, titanium casing and “hi-tech” ceramic features), partly inspired by the aerospace industries, the back of each handset is further encased by “supple, perfectly smooth and blemish-free leather”.

“Each piece of high-quality leather is painstakingly checked to ensure that the grain is consistent and of premium quality,” the company said.

The phone’s “unique” ringtone was created by British multi-award-winning recording artist, composer and producer Mark Sayfritz. An indoor air quality sensor alerts the handset holder of any airborne pollutants.

No brand name features anywhere, ensuring that the phone “exudes mystery and commands interest”, Xor said. The company’s “intriguing” shield logo is present, however, to remind users that they are “constantly under protection, 24/7”.

Xor’s first collection consists of four colour variants: Titanium Classic, Titanium Ebony, Titanium Marine and Titanium Rose.

Prices start at £3,000 (roughly $4,100).
