Singapore-based Hydroleap provides an “environmentally-friendly” solution replacing chemicals with electricity and is suitable for tannery wastewater, according to the company.
Founder Dr Mohammad Sherafatmandh received his PhD from the National University of Singapore in environmental engineering specialising in using electrochemical methods for the treatment of wastewater and contaminated-soil.
Paul Santos, managing partner of Wavemaker Partners, one of the investors, said: “Through electrochemistry research, Dr Moh has developed and commercialised an electrocoagulation system. We are proud to journey with Hydroleap to deploy 3,000 systems in Singapore alone.”
As well as the tanning industry, the technology can be applied to the construction, food and beverage, oil and gas, mining and semiconductor industries, it said. It is based on electrochemical principles where low powered electricity is applied to activate the aqueous solution and form coagulant reagents to attract contaminants.
