Lineapelle exhibit shows leather’s links to circular economy
Industry bodies including Italian tanners’ association UNIC, wastewater treatment plant operator Aquarno, Tuscany-based technical research and educational institute Poteco and Veneto-based tanning machinery developer and manufacturer Cartigliano joined forces at Lineapelle in October to set up a display to show how leather fits into the concept of the circular economy.

A first for the Milan event, visitors to Lineapelle could walk through the exhibit, which had the name ‘The Leather (re)cycling Exhibition’. It showed representations of all steps of the leather manufacturing process, from raw hide to finished leather products. This included a model of an effluent treatment plant.

“The circular economy seeks to prolong the life of manufactured products,” the organisers said, “and emphasises the harmony inherent in the process involved to make those products.”
