Italian tanneries seek teachers to entice next generation

Italian tanneries, supported by tannery association UNIC, have continued their quest to entice young people into the industry by setting up an initiative to promote the sector through teachers.

Tanning Orienteering is aimed at teachers of lower secondary schools in the tanning district, who can guide young people into the industry and highlight the benefits of the more manual jobs.

The first day of Tanning Orienteering took place at POTECO, Polo Tecnologico Conciario. The teachers will also visit the next edition of leather fair Lineapelle and hear from representatives of the fashion sector. 

Paolo Bastianello, president of the Confindustria Moda Education Committee, said: "The teachers and school managers showed concrete interest in the project, which we believe can make a real contribution in terms of raising awareness of the many job opportunities connected to the tanning industry.”
