Footwear brands pledge support for CSCB programme
21/11/2018
CICB set this certification programme up in 2012 and published standards for it in 2014. Detailed criteria cover four “dimensions of sustainability” that the programme has identified: sustainability management, as well as economic, environmental and social aspects.
There are four levels of certification that tanners can achieve, depending on how many of the criteria they fulfil. Provided they meet at least 50% of the indicators, they can earn a bronze certification. Silver is for those meeting 75%, gold 90% and diamond 100% of the criteria.
As a result of the agreement, Arezzo & CO and Calçados Bibi have committed to encouraging their leather suppliers to comply with the norms of the certification.
"Arezzo & Co will be one of the first companies to sign this cooperation in Brazil. We're a company that values a guarantee of origin on the raw materials used to create our products," said Cisso Klaus, executive director of Arezzo & Co.
For his part, Marlin Kohlraush, president of Bibi, said: “We give privilege to the supply of leather from tanneries that are already certified or that are in the process of adapting to meet to the norm. Additionally, already-certified tanneries will be encouraged to continue seeking to improve their processes and achieve higher levels of certification.”
