Operations resume at JBS slaughterhouses

Seven slaughterhouses operated by packer and tanning group JBS in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul have reopened after a near-week-long closure.

The facilities were temporarily shut down on October 18 after a local court blocked JBS and its parent company J&F from accessing 730 million reais (around $230 million) due to allegations of tax irregularities in the state.

Reuters has reported that JBS reached an agreement with the local authorities in Mato Grosso do Sul to reopen the plants, but said it was not clear if its assets will be unblocked.
