UNIC publishes Italy’s leather export figures

Italy’s main tanning industry association, UNIC, has revealed that Italy’s leather sector exports reached €3.8 billion in 2016, which they describe as the highest by value in the world.

Its goods were exported to 114 countries, although it ranks fourth in terms of production volume.

Production of automotive leather in Italy grew 8%, but leather destined for leathergoods fell 7% by volume.

The figures were released at its annual meeting, held at the Palazzo Mezzanotte in Milan.

Gianni Russo was confirmed as UNIC president for 2017-2018.
