New Italian federation includes Assocalzaturifici and AIMPES
05/04/2017
It includes leathergoods manufacturers’ association AIMPES, footwear manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici, AIP (the Italian Fur Association), and Federorafi (the Italian Federation of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths). It is hoped that the membership of Italy’s main tanning industry association, UNIC, will be formalised in the new future.
Each association will retain autonomy on the issues specific to their industry; this includes trade fairs and events. Confindustria Moda will be on hand to offer legal consulting services, industrial relations management and a research department.
Claudio Marenzi, president of Sistema Moda Italia (SMI), was chosen as the first president of Confindustria Moda, with Cirillo Marcolin, president of the Italian Federation of Fashion and Personal Accessories (FIAMP), elected vice president. The presidency will alternate between SMI and FIAMP and each president will be in office for two years.
“Today marks an historic day for Italian goods,” Mr Marenzi said. “We are supreme craftsmen who invent and create, inspiring consumers. We are also one of the driving industries of Italian and European GDP and take our rightful place in Italy and Europe, continuing with greater impetus to campaign on themes such as distribution, trade union relations and the fight against counterfeiting.”
Confindustria Moda has agreed the purchase of a site in Milan, which will bring together all the associations, trade fair events and offices of the new federation. It expects to move to the site at the start of 2018.
