Gucci to support UNIC student project

05/10/2017
Italian tanning industry association UNIC unveiled a new project that will explore sustainability in the leather industry on the first day of the Lineapelle exhibition in Milan (October 4-6).

The project has been developed in partnership with luxury brand Gucci fashion school the Accademia Costume & Moda.

The three partners will team up to help new designers learn about sustainability, product culture and experimentation.

Third-year students on the Costume and Fashion course at Accademia Costume & Moda will work to create a capsule collection based on a brief provided by Gucci. They will only use materials from Italian tanners that adhere to UNIC’s sustainability requirements.

The project will run from October 2017 to October 2018. During this period, the students will have access to workshops on the theme of sustainability. They will also visit UNIC member companies and Gucci’s new centre of excellence for leathergoods and footwear.

The students will present items from their capsule collections at the autumn 2018 edition of Lineapelle.
