Tanneries celebrate three years of greenLIFE project
The major results of research conducted over the past three years as part of the Green Leather Industry for the Environment (greenLIFE) project were presented at a special conference in the Italian town of Montorso Vicentino on May 9.

In 2014, two of the biggest tanners in the Arzignano cluster, Gruppo Dani and Gruppo Mastrotto, formally launched the project, working with three technical partners: chemical supplier Ikem, biotechnology firm Ilsa and the cluster’s wastewater treatment service provider, Acque del Chiampo. Its aim is to promote sustainability in the tanning industry. Half of the funding for greenLIFE has come from the European Union.

The conference included speeches from those responsible for different parts of the research project, who explained the technical advancements achieved during the past three years.

Gruppo Dani said the event attracted many attendees, which it said “proves the subject is relevant and important”.

World Leather magazine has been giving readers access to the project through a series of technical articles. Three such articles have been published in recent issues, with a further three to come. You can catch up with the articles published so far via the World Leather ezine or in the leatherbiz technical library.
