Toyota ups commitment to manufacturing in US

Japanese carmaker Toyota has announced it will invest more than $1.3 billion to upgrade its vehicle assembly plant in Kentucky, US.

It forms part of Toyota’s plan to invest $10 billion in the US over the next five years.

The company said the investment in Kentucky “solidifies its commitment” to manufacturing vehicles in the US, although it will not create any new jobs. The plant, Toyota’s largest in the world, currently employs 8,200 people.

The upgrade will allow Toyota to cut the time needed to develop new models, as well as letting it improve manufacturing stability.
