Representatives of Argentina’s leather industry meet with government
02/12/2016
Speaking after the meeting, Ariel Aguilar, president of Argentinean leather industry association CIMA, said the industry finds itself in the midst of a considerable crisis.
He added that those present discussed the problems facing the different sectors of the industry. This included complaints from tanners over branding on the animals they receive and wider concerns over the quality of the leather produced, especially important given that 75% of Argentina’s production is exported. He also emphasised the need to gain access to more markets, especially those in South America, in order to address the falling value of exports.
He expects work on addressing the issues discussed to commence at the start of 2017.
