“Grave crisis” for Argentinean meat sector

10/10/2016
Argentina’s livestock farmers slaughtered 950,000 head of cattle in September, which represents a 13% fall year on year, and a decline of almost 8% compared to the previous month, August 2016.

Industry sources said the reasons for the shortfall are a decline in cattle available for slaughter and a ten-day stoppage that trade unions called for.

The president of one meat industry association, ABC, Mario Ravettino, said export-facing meat industry in Argentina is in the midst of “a grave crisis”.
