Argentinean tanners announce early holidays as orders dry up

17/11/2016
Tanners are among the employers in Argentina that have announced an enforced early start to the summer holidays there owing to downturns in demand for leather and for finished products. Some footwear companies are reported to have taken similar steps, as have companies in many other manufacturing sectors.

According to reports, tanners involved include Curtiembre Antonio Espósito in Avellaneda and Calipso in the town of Valentín Alsina, both in the Buenos Aires region.

Workers have typically been told that their summer holidays will begin halfway through December and that they are to stay off work until the end of January. In some cases, salaries will not be paid for the entire period.
