Lectra explores the future for furniture
Leather cutting technology provider Lectra has hosted a seminar to discuss future trends and technologies in the furniture industry.

The ‘Stand out from the crowd’ seminar brought together more than 90 furniture manufacturers and industry experts to explore fresh ways to stimulate growth and innovation. It presented the latest consumer and design trends, as well as technologies and processes.

It took place at Lectra’s International Advanced Technology and Conference centre in Bordeaux-Cestas, France, and was devoted to sharing insights in innovations that will allow those present to get ahead of their competition. The manufacturers of upholstered furniture were encouraged to think about their activities from a different perspective.

“Four major trends are having an extensive impact on the industry,” said Edouard Macquin, sales director at Lectra. “The Millennials generation and their new ways of consuming; growing digitalisation in companies; the Industry 4.0 revolution; and the transformation of the Chinese market.”

Market research company CSIL unveiled the results of a global survey, carried out with Lectra, which probed the key challenges facing manufacturers of upholstered furniture. The majority of the manufacturers cited shorter delivery times as a key challenge as it means reassessing the entire supply chain. Intensified competition and the urgent need to differentiate from competitors were also cited as major challenges, along with managing margins and the scarcity of skilled labour.
