Furniture firm expects payback on Lectra cutting system in 16 months
Baden-Württemberg furniture company Erpo has invested in Lectra’s Versalis leather-cutting solution. The company has already been a Lectra customer for ten years.

Erpo has built its reputation on high-quality, highly customisable furniture. It has been in business for more than 60 years and has showrooms in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, as well as in Germany.

Many of Erpo’s products are made using manual techniques, however, according to Lectra, the furniture company has realised that manual nesting of the high-end leather it uses makes it difficult to offer the “wide range of personalisation options” Erpo wants to make available.

Using Versalis will enable Erpo to increase productivity and optimise hide use, the technology provider believes. “One Versalis will do the same amount of work as two of Erpo’s previous leather-cutting solutions,” it said on announcing the deal. “Automated nesting software will enable the company to reduce material consumption by more than 5%, a significant cost advantage considering premium leather prices.”

Erpo managing director, Klaus Oevermann, explained at the time that being able to integrate Versalis into the company’s overall production process was another attraction. He said Erpo is expecting a return on its investment in the technology in less than 16 months.

For her part, Lectra’s chief marketing officer, Céline Choussy Bedouet, said: “Erpo will be able to continue offering consumers the choice and quality they have come to expect while increasing material savings and production capacity.”
