Kering ordered to compensate former designer

Luxury fashion house Kering has been ordered to pay €13 million to former fashion designer Hedi Slimane for failing to honour a non-compete clause when he left the company. Mr Slimane stepped down after four years as creative director of the Kering-owned Yves Saint Laurent brand in April.

Mr Slimane brought the case against Kering after they decided to lift the clause, denying him the financial compensation he would otherwise have been entitled to. Kering argued that it had lifted the clause when Mr Slimane left the company, allowing him to work for a competitor if he wished.

Kering has announced it will appeal the ruling, arguing that it is just “an interim decision” and that “the procedure is still going on”.
