Canada launches expanded beef verification programme
17/06/2016
It builds on the VBP programme, a system in place since 2004 that offers voluntary food safety training and auditing for cow-calf producers and feedlot operators. The expanded initiative will incorporate food safety practices and include training and auditing for animal care, biosecurity, and environmental stewardship.
Producers who complete the programme, which costs between $400 and $600, will be able to use the VBP+ programme label on their website and marketing material to demonstrate their commitment to responsible stewardship of cattle and resources. The programme will also give retailers and consumers more information about key production practices, allowing them to purchase beef that has been raised with the right oversight and care.
