Expansion project will help Tannin Corporation subsidiary double its output
03/06/2016
Originally established in Boston, Marden-Wild moved to Nova Scotia 75 years ago to take advantage of easy access to local raw materials such as fish oil and soya beans to make tanning oils, fatliquors and waxes for use in the leather industry. Tannin Corporation acquired Marden-Wild ten years ago and it remains the only tanning oil manufacturer for leathergoods in Canada and is one of the largest producers in North America, exporting to 28 countries, with its main markets being the US, Mexico, China, India and Central America.
The expansion will involve the installation of new reactor vessels and additional bulk storage tanks and will enable Marden-Wild, to double its manufacturing output from July 2016 on. The expansion will also allow Marden-Wild to manufacture its products more efficiently and streamline its processes, Tannin Corporation said at the time of the announcement, enabling it to diversify its product line. It will add several long-term job opportunities at the Amherst facility.
