Cobrasil is the latest tannery to sign up for CSCB

Brazilian tanning industry association CICB has confirmed that Piauí-based tanner Cobrasil has become the latest leather producer in the country to join its Brazilian Leather Sustainability Certification (CSCB) initiative.

CICB announced the new sustainability certification programme for Brazilian leather in 2013 and fully launched the initiative in 2015. Audits examining 173 different indicators are carried out by Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), following which tanners can obtain bronze, silver, gold and diamond certification.

Other tanneries to have signed up so far include JBS Couros, Fuga Couros, Couroquímica, Internacional Couros, AMCM, Mats, Courovale, A. Bühler, and Curtume Moderno.
