IULTCS welcomes new members

09/03/2016
The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) has announced that the Leather and Leather Products Institute (LLPI) of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa has become a full member of the organisation. In addition, the leather chemicals sector in the Netherlands has become an associate member.

Countries represented by Addis Ababa-based LLPI include Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda and Zambia. Its executive director, Dr Mwinyikione Mwinyihija, has argued that the continued growth of leather manufacturing in central and southern Africa makes it important for the voice of this region to be heard in global technical discussions and make a contribution towards the technical direction taken by industry.

IULTCS said on announcing the news that the Netherlands signing up as an associate member shows that the leather chemicals industry there will also “continue its history of positive contributions to the leather industry”. Dirick von Behr, technical manager at Smit & Zoon, will represent the Dutch leather chemicals sector at IULTCS level.

The next meeting of the IULTCS executive will be during the APLF exhibition in Hong Kong on 30th March.
