IULTCS names merit award winner

The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) has announced the winner of its ‘Merit Award for Excellence in the Leather Industry’. The 2017 award is given to Professor Mariliz Gutterres Soares, who is the head of the Laboratory for Leather and Environment Studies (LACOURO) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil.  

Professor Gutteres Soares received the award for her work on leather process technology and environmental process improvements. She has more than 30 years of experience in the leather industry. 

“Mariliz has been very active in supporting various initiatives from the IULTCS for many years and we trust that she will continue serving the industry with her broad knowledge and experience,” said IULTCS President, Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer.

The IULTCS award was established in 2005 and Professor Gutteres Soares is the seventh person to receive it. She will receive the award at the next biennial IULTCS World Congress in Chennai, India in February 2017.
