Leather Pipeline: Suede provides bright spot in uncertain market
In this issue of our exclusive Leather Pipeline report, we hear demand for suede is meaning that tanners have been able to rise prices slightly – although it remains a very cheap option.

Goatskin is also seeing somewhat of a revival, although buyers and sellers are haggling on price.

“Let us hope that this trend will spill into the rest of the market, because this would be good news for leather,” says the author.

“Improved conditions during the winter in China also supported demand for upholstery and stopped the decline of prices for hides related to this sector in the last quarter of 2015.”

For footwear and handbags, leather demand is still unclear, and the industry is hoping this week’s Lineapelle show in Milan will provide some more answers.

While the Indian leather show did not give any pointers to demand, more and more shoe brands are considering moving manufacturing there as a serious alternative to China, according to the author.
