Work to resume at a number of Kanpur tanneries

India’s National Green Tribunal has ruled around 40 tanneries in Kanpur will be allowed to operate, subject to pollution controls.

A large number were forced to close while the government and various agencies carried out inspections of their waste disposal facilities, following suggestions of them polluting the River Ganges.

Around 130 had submitted applications to continue working, according to The Times of India, after mass closures earlier this year.
