Senior executives from automotive seating supplier Lear Corporation have announced that the company will expand its business in Mexico by opening a new plant in the town of Fresnillo in the state of Zacatecas.

Lear Corporation has 15 plants in Mexico already, the majority of them devoted to seating (the company also supplies electronics to automotive original equipment manufacturers).

Lear Corporation vice-president, Óscar Domínguez, took part in a joint press conference with officials from the state of Zacatecas to announce the new plant at the start of October. Mr Domínguez said his company would invest an initial sum of $13.5 million in the Fresnillo plant.

“Our aim is to create approximately 1,400 jobs at the new plant by the end of 2017,” he continued. “And if things work out as well as we hope, there is a chance that we will keep investing and grow the number of employees.”
