Brazil’s tanning industry association CICB was one of the organisations that took part in a plenary meeting of Comcouro, a committee that represents every aspect of the leather value chain, in São Paulo in mid-September.

One of the key subjects for discussion was the nationwide ‘Blitz Project’, which aims to cut out abuse of the word ‘leather’ and to educate retailers on the requirements of the country’s Leather Law, or ‘Lei do Couro’.

Blitz project co-ordinator, Ricardo Michaelsen, addressed the Comcouro meeting and said: “Terms such as ‘eco-leather’ or ‘synthetic leather’ are prohibited by the law.”
