Indonesia backtracks on cattle quotas

Indonesia’s new trade minister has increased cattle permits by 200,000 to 300,000 after a sharp reduction last quarter led to beef process rocketing.

Cattle farmers in Australia were dismayed in July when the Asian country said it would take only a fifth of its normal orders (50,000), a move by then-minister Rachmat Gobel to lessen its dependence on imports.

Mr Gobel was replaced by Thomas Trikasih Lembong this week.
