Hermes supplier doubles hide cutting with Lectra’s Versalis
Leather furniture-maker Duvivier Productions has selected Lectra’s Versalis leather cutting solution to boost efficiency without increasing staff.
The French company - which is the only leather furniture-maker to have received the Entreprise de Patrimoine Vivante or ‘living heritage’ status from the government - had set a target of doubling the number of hides it cuts per day.
Lectra commented: “In an industry where traditional often means manual, technology can be perceived as a threat to craft skills, slowing adoption of new systems and delaying the payback on investment. Duvivier and Lectra recognised the need to involve the teams of craftsmen and women from the very beginning and to support them during implementation and afterwards.”
Duvivier said the Versalis has brought three main advantages: The first is the time saving enabled by the continuous cutting line, with its ability to digitise, nest and cut the hides. The second is productivity, with throughput up to 140 hides per day, and the third is cut quality.
The company will continue to manufacture products under the Canapés Duvivier name as well as for luxury brands such as Hermès.
Duvivier’s production manager, Dean Leullier, praised the speed at which the machines were installed. “We’ve been working with Lectra for a very long time; they’re more like a partner than a supplier,” he said.
