Icelandic fish tannery Atlantic Leather is preparing for its first visit to ANPIC, the Mexico-based leather and footwear show, in anticipation of growing demand for its specialist products.

It will join 870 other exhibitors from 26 countries, and organisers are expecting 16,500 buyers over the three days, November 3 to 5, in Leon.

Atlantic is launching its leathers to the South American market with local firm OA Trading. The partnership came about after a chance encounter at the APLF exhibition in Hong Kong in April.

ANPIC president, Carlo Benedetti said the recent actions by the federal government to suspend tariff-free access for imported footwear have strengthened the leather footwear supply chain.

However, the news did not go down as well elsewhere: The American Apparel and Footwear Association said it has prevented some of its members exporting shoes to Mexico.
