Florence leathergoods atelier behind new Montblanc collection

Such is its interest in leathergoods that it acquired La Pelleteria, a producer of high-quality leather-based products, based just outside Florence, in 2006. “It may seem like an unusual move for us to have made,” the brand’s chief executive, Jérôme Lambert, said in a recent interview with French newspaper Le Figuaro, “but it meant being able to control quality at every stage of the development of the products and this was of fundamental importance to us. High-quality execution is an intrinsic characteristic of all of our products.”
La Pelleteria is behind a collection of branded accessories, Montblanc Extreme, that the brand launched earlier this year. Aimed at men, the new collection has taken two years to develop. Main items are a briefcase that’s more like a satchel than an attaché case, and a rucksack.
“These days, lifestyles are fusing into one,” Mr Lambert explained in the interview. “Another important aspect is that, today, young people are rising really quickly to positions of high responsibility in the workplace. Not so long ago, people in those positions would have had their own chauffeur; now they ride bikes. So, yes, they want products that are high-quality and long-lasting, but practical too.”
